The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) tells ANN
that its members working at United Airlines ratified the tentative
contract agreement with the company through electronic
balloting.
It was just six weeks ago that EU Trade Commissioner Peter
Mandelson declared his version of peace in our time -- a pledge
that the union's dispute with the US over airplane manufacturing
subsidies would be resolved without a battle in open trade court.
Now, the US has filed a World Trade Organization suit against the
EU, alleging unfair subsidies to Airbus. Mandelson, abandoning
hopes of settling without launching a trade war, has filed a
countersuit, accusing local governments in the States of, in
effect, subsidizing Boeing.

The nation's seventh-biggest air carrier goes to court Tuesday,
expected to face a lot of union opposition to its plans for a
merger with America West.
What does it take to get a federal rule made? Well, a new
federal rule that requires airlines to track, manage and report
statistics on pet fatalities and injuries in cargo holds resulted
from four complaints of pet mistreatment or injury to the
Department of Transportation last year.
