Unions Propose Contract Negotiations Hours After Company Reports $480 Million Profit

Flight attendants at the new American Airlines welcomed reports of the best first quarter in company history and look forward to translating that success to an industry-leading joint contract. In a morning press release, American Airlines announced a staggering $480 million profit, despite a winter full of costly flight cancellations. Coincidentally, the joint negotiating team charged with representing all 24,000 flight attendants at the merged airline in contract negotiations submitted an opening proposal to company management later in the morning.

Embraer Commercial Aviation forecasts that airlines in Africa and the Middle East will take delivery of 530 new jets in the 70 to 130-seat segment over the next 20 years valued at $25 billion at list prices, representing 8% of the worldwide demand for the segment in the period. It is estimated that 65% of the total new deliveries will be added to support market demand growth while 35% will replace aging retiring aircraft.

Boeing Reports Strong First-Quarter Results

Revenue Increased 8 Percent To $20.5 Billion Reflecting Higher Commercial Deliveries

Boeing reported first-quarter revenue increased 8 percent to $20.5 billion on higher commercial volume. Core earnings per share (non-GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) increased 14 percent to $1.76 when excluding a benefit of $0.19 per share for the 2012 research and development tax credit recorded in the first quarter of 2013.
