It's not really unexpected... but it's still a major blow to
Boeing's struggling 787 Dreamliner program. Moments ago, the
American planemaker announced a revised plan for first flight and
initial deliveries of the 787, that moves target dates for those
milestones off by as much as six months beyond earlier
expectations.
Proposed Solutions Range From Airline Partnerships, To Faster
Training
One of the most pressing issues in the aviation industry today
is the challenge to the pilot supply pipeline as employers who used
to require 1,000 hours or more of flight experience now hire pilots
graduating from collegiate programs with as few as 250 to 300
hours.
According to a report in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the FAA
says it has reassigned a senior safety official days after Congress
was told about maintenance lapses and ineffective oversight at
Southwest Airlines.
FAA Inspectors Find Planes Still Out Of Compliance
More than 500 American Airlines flights were cancelled Tuesday,
so the carrier could begin re-inspecting its entire 300-plane fleet
of MD-80 airliners to insure proper stowage of wiring bundles
inside the aircrafts' maingear wells.
US Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters announced Tuesday
that Marie Kennington-Gardiner of Staten Island has been tapped to
serve as director of the New York Integration Office, created by
the Department last year as part of a coordinated effort to address
chronic aviation delays in the New York region.
