Part 2: 'This Has Got To Beat Firecrackers'

For the first four days of the STS-4 mission there was very little heard by the public about the flight. Apparently their top-secret DOD payload work was causing NASA to keep a tight lid on the mission. Daily press conferences with flight directors were peppered with statements such as, “We can’t talk about that.” “That’s something we can’t talk about.” “Can’t answer that.” and of course “No comment.”

NASA Partners With Forest Service To Highlight Wildfires, Science

Astronaut Joe Abaca Carried Smokey The Bear With Him To The ISS

NASA and the U.S. Forest Service signed a Space Act Agreement last week that unites the two agencies in raising awareness about the importance of fire prevention and fire safety. This partnership will highlight areas of common interest in wildfires, forest and plant growth research and materials science.
