KFD 840 PFD Recieves Certification For Flight Director Functionality

Avionics Protection Plan Doubles In Five Years

Bendix/King by Honeywell has received certification for flight director functionality and improved graphics in the  KFD 840 Primary Flight Display (PFD) , while expanding the number of eligible piston-powered aircraft to more than 100,000, Honeywell announced Monday.

“The flight director capability increases the number of aircraft that can benefit from the KFD 840’s large digital display and enhanced situational awareness,” said Roger Dykmann, director, General Aviation, Honeywell Aerospace. “The KFD 840 was specifically designed for ease of use. Its wide horizon and large format reduces pilot workload and makes flying easier.”

Honeywell’s KFD 840 is an 8.4-inch display that integrates easy-to-read vertical tapes with vertical rolling digits for altitude, airspeed, and an edge-to-edge artificial horizon. The single-box display replaces up to six primary instruments: attitude, airspeed, altimeter, turn and bank, vertical
speed and horizontal situation indicators (HSI).

“Using Honeywell proprietary technology, the display of graphics on the KFD 840 is now more crisp and smooth, displaying what is still the largest horizon available in general aviation,” Dykmann added. The KFD 840 utilizes a Micro Electro-Mechanical (MEMS)-based Air Data Attitude and Heading Reference System (ADAHRS) that provides reliable, high precision data to the system.

In addition, the company announced Monday that its Honeywell Avionics Protection Plan (HAPP) has doubled its enrollment since 2005. The protection plan, which covers both Bendix/King by Honeywell and Honeywell panel avionics, encompasses repairs, labor, shipping and loaners. The plan, paid in annual installments, is a predictable expense that doesn’t change regardless of the number of repairs needed.

“An operator may save up to twice the expense of the plan in just one unanticipated repair event,” said Brian Sill, vice president, Business & General Aviation Aftermarket Programs, Honeywell Aerospace. “Our enrollment in HAPP has doubled in part due to the fact that we go beyond extending the warranty to keep pilots in the air by including labor, shipping and free loaners.”

HAPP covers most Honeywell avionics on the airframe for a year or more. Operators can choose to enroll in HAPP regardless of the age of the aircraft without a buy-in required. HAPP pricing is based on flight hours, airframe and equipment on board, and special pricing is available for fleet operators. HAPP covers any product maintained in the spares and exchange pool, regardless of how long it has been off warranty.
