Woman Shoots At LSA

She Told Authorities It Was "Flying Too Close To Her Home"

A woman in Fulton, Missouri faces felony charges after she allegedly walked out near the grass runway at Elton Hensley Memorial Airport in Fulton about 1930 on Saturday and took a shot with a .22 caliber pistol at a T-Bird LSA that was landing at the airport.

The plane apparently had flown over the home of 69-year-old Judy Davis several times on Saturday, and that made her mad.

Fortunately, the shot allegedly fired by Davis missed the airplane. No one actually saw her fire the shot, but they heard it, and Davis was detained by other pilots while police were called. The FBI was contacted, but they left the case in the hands of the local authorities.

Police Chief Steve Myers told Fox 2 News in St. Louis airport employees said that Davis brandished a pistol when she came into the airport, saying she was going to "shut this plane down". Travis St. John, the airport manager, said the plane had been engaged in flight training most of the day, and that it likely was loud. Still, he said, that didn't justify firing a pistol on airport grounds [no kidding. ed]. "It was just somebody who was irate and did an irrational response to something they should have just called or gotten us to stop flying over her house," said St. John.

The T-Bird landed safely, its occupants unaware that they had been under fire. Davis faces a charge of unlawful use of a weapon, which could carry a four year prison term.
