AF Helicopter Down In England

Four On Board Pave Hawk Helo Fatally Inured

An Air Force HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter went down at about 1800 Greenwich Mean Time Jan. 7 near Salthouse on the Norfolk coast in England.

The aircraft, assigned to the 48th Fighter Wing, was on a low-level training mission when the accident occurred, according to an Air Force release. The Air Force confirms that all four crewmembers on board were fatally injured. Names of the Airmen killed in the crash will be released 24 hours after next-of-kin notifications.

U.S. military officials are coordinating the recovery efforts with the U.K. police and the Ministry of Defense. The authorities have secured the crash site and established a cordon.

CNN reports that Norfolk Constabulary Chief Superintendent Bob Scully said the recovery was particularly difficult because of the marshy tidal conditions at the site, along with "wreckage containing munitions covering a large area." He said the investigation will be a "challenging and lengthy process."
