National Air Transportation Foundation Awards 2005 Scholarships

Pioneers of Flight Scholarship Goes To Purdue Student

The National Air Transportation Foundation (NATF), the research and educational arm of the National Air Transportation Association (NATA), announced the winners of the Foundation's scholarship programs following NATA’s Annual Convention and Aviation Industry Week trade show.

The Pioneers of Flight Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 was awarded to Shawn Gerber. Gerber, from Fort Wayne, Indiana, is a junior in aviation technology at Purdue University.

Two flight-training scholarships were awarded totaling $5,000 for continuing flight training. The John E. Godwin, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund recipient for 2005 is Darren Schultz, who will use the scholarship monies to further his educational goals at the University of North Dakota. The Godwin scholarship was established in memory of John E. Godwin, Jr., chairman of Atlantic Aero.

The second flight-training scholarship, the Dan L. Meisinger Sr. Memorial Learn to Fly Scholarship, went to Eric Pawloski, a sophomore at Kent State University, who will use the funds for his Certified Flight Instructor rating. The Meisinger scholarship was established in memory of Dan L. Meisinger, Sr., whose career in aviation spanned 63 years as the founder of Executive Beechcraft.

"Each year, the NATF sees stronger candidates for these awards," said NATA President James K. Coyne. "We are very pleased to have such a well-qualified pool of young applicants pursuing a career in general aviation, and we are very appreciative of the generosity of the Godwin and Meisinger families for making these scholarships available. General aviation offers ample opportunities for these enthusiastic and ambitious young students. The entire Foundation Board of Directors and the NATA staff join me in congratulating these fine students for their academic/flight excellence and look forward to working with them very soon."

The NATF scholarships were established in 1989 to offer financial assistance and encouragement to young people in the pursuit of academic excellence and to promote careers in the general aviation industry.
