IO-580 Running on All Six Cylinders In EU

EASA Certification Granted

Lycoming Engines announced Thursday, June 22, that it had received European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) type certification for its IO-580-B1A engine.

The IO-580's direct drive system (no gear box) gives it an excellent power to weight ratio. Producing 315 hp at 2700 rpm, the Lycoming IO-580-B1A is also the largest-displacement six-cylinder engine certified with EASA. It has a 2000-hour TBO.

"We are pleased to now be able to offer both FAA and EASA certification of this model to our customers," said Steve Logue, director of OEM sales.

Technically, EASA certification establishes that the engine "complies with the applicable Type Certification Basis and environmental protection requirements when operated within the conditions and limitations specified on the associated Type Certificate Data Sheet No. (IM). E.027."
