SAS Reaches Agreement With Swedish Pilots’ Union

Pilot Strike In Sweden Is Called Off

SAS has been in negotiations with the Swedish pilot union (SPF) since the middle of April. After a pilot strike that commenced on Friday, the parties today reached an agreement and the strike is called off. The pilots will resume work and the air traffic is expected to normalize during the next few days.

"It has been a difficult process and we are relieved that the strike is called off and that our customers can take their flights as planned. I deeply regret that so many customers have been affected by this strike," said Rickard Gustafson, President and CEO of SAS.

The strike has resulted in about 1,000 cancelled flights and a total of 100,000 passengers affected by the disrupted traffic. The financial effects from the strike are yet too early to quantify.

The new agreement between SAS and SPF is effective from April 1, 2016 and is valid for one year. SAS has also reached new agreements with the Norwegian pilots unions and consequently, this year’s negotiations with pilot unions are concluded.
