Airborne 10.14.19: SJ30i 1st Flight!, Stolen Plane, Balloon Instructor

Also: AirShow Racing Series, Women In Aviation Advisory Board, Rolls-Royce RR300, Delta Flies 120 Girls To NASA

A much upgraded version of the speedy SJ30i light bizjet has taken to the skies... just in time to be able to strut its stuff for the upcoming NBAA Convention next week in Las Vegas, NV.

SyberJet Aircraft’s SJ30i successfully completed the first flight of its SJ30i aircraft featuring an all-new cockpit based around the Honeywell Epic 2.0 avionics suite. The flight was conducted out of its Engineering and Product Development Center at the San Antonio International Airport (KSAT) and kicked off an 18-month certification test program which will culminate in an amended type certificate for the SJ30 -- followed by immediate deliveries. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) began assisting the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department in an unusual burglary report from July 2019. Among items stolen from the burglary was (then) an unregistered or unknown registration aircraft which was last known to be on a custom trailer for transport. CID investigators led a coordinated effort with the Tennessee Department of Revenue and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, resulting in Tennessee Highway Patrol’s Trooper Jeff Phann locating and recovering the aircraft in Putnam County on Tuesday October the 1st. The Balloon Training Academy and the National Association of Flight Instructors have identified a need for recognizing Balloon Lighter than Air (LTA) instructors who are active, professional, and have a history of a positive and safe customer experience. The program's mission is to differentiate between a commercial balloon pilot who is analogous to a CFI, and one who demonstrates the highest level of instructional activity, educational experience, and professional service while acting as an instructor. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
