FAA Investigates 'Loss Of Separation' Incident Involving Air Force One

Private Aircraft Got Too Close To President Trump's Plane Approaching Palm Beach, FL

The FAA is investigating an incident in which a private airplane closed to within 2 nautical miles of Air Force One as it approached Palm Beach International Airport February 3.

Bloomberg reports that the incident occurred about 30 miles from the airport last Friday at about 1630 local time. It was confirmed by three people "familiar with the event" who were not authorized to speak to the media. The sources said that there was no risk of collision because the aircraft were flying parallel courses. The type of private aircraft was not reported.

"Loss of Separation" incidents can be the result of either pilot error or controller error.

The FAA declined to comment on the incident other than to say that it was under investigation. The NTSB has also been notified, according to the report.
