Daniel Webster College President Fired

New Owner ITT Tech Has Not Named A Successor

Following the layoff of 23 other employees, Robert Myers, the president of Daniel Webster College, was abruptly fired on Wednesday. DWC owner ITT Technical Institute would not comment on the move.

According to a report in the Nashua, NH, Telegraph, Myers was told Wednesday morning he was no longer an employee of the college and asked to leave the campus immediately. "I'm still processing it," he told the paper following his termination. He had been at DWC since 2005. Prior to that, he had been chancellor of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's extended campus in Daytona Beach, FL.

A source close to the situation who was also let go indicated that as many as 60 Daniel Webster employees could eventually lose their jobs. The school has been struggling financially. It had accumulated $23 million in debt, which forced the sale to ITT Tech. Following the sale, the college moved from a non-profit institution to a for-profit college.

The paper reports that, at the time of the sale, Myers had assured faculty and staff that it would not mean layoffs. In fact, he had expected some of the school's vacant positions would be filled. A letter on the school website from Dr. Nadine Dowling, DWC interim president, makes no mention of the change in administration. It talks about improvements in campus facilities and dormitories that have been made since the sale to ITT Tech.
