Hart Confirmed As NTSB Chairman

Vote In The U.S. Senate Was Unanimous

The U.S. Senate on Thursday confirmed Christopher Hart as the chair of the NTSB. The vote in the Senate was unanimous.

Hart (pictured), himself a pilot, joined the Board in 2009, and has been acting chair since Deborah Hersman stepped down from the position last April. His nomination had been unanimously approved by the Senate Transportation Committee in February.

"We are pleased with Christopher Hart’s confirmation as NTSB chairman and look forward to continuing our strong relationship with not only him, but with the entire board, so we can continually enhance aviation safety.” said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. “This chairman’s experience with general aviation gives him unique insight that we are certain will benefit the business aviation community. He understands the value of general aviation and has a receptive, innovative approach to enhancing aviation safety.”

“A4A congratulates Chairman Hart on his unanimous confirmation,” said A4A President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio. “Chairman Hart is well regarded as a strong leader and relentless advocate for achieving the highest levels of safety – the NTSB will continue to benefit from his leadership. The U.S. airline industry is in the safest period in aviation history due to the ongoing and strong collaboration among the airlines, labor, manufacturers and government, and we remain committed to working with Chairman Hart and his team to maintain our role as a worldwide leader in aviation safety and security.”

“We congratulate Member Hart on his confirmation as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board,” said AOPA President Mark Baker. “During his years at the NTSB and FAA he has demonstrated his commitment to making our skies safer, and as a licensed pilot he has first-hand experience of the challenges aviators face.

“All of us at AOPA look forward to working with Chairman Hart as we continue our collaborative efforts to keep improving general aviation safety.”
