EADS Hopes To Interest Kids In Aerospace Careers
We seem to spend a lot of time and
effort wondering how to get American school kids interested in the
STEM disciplines, with an eye towards steering them to higher
education and technical fields. It seems that there are some of the
same concerns in Europe, and so, as part of its 10th anniversary
celebration, EADS has organized the "I dream up my future" days.
The event offers teenagers a unique opportunity to discover the
fascinating world of aeronautics. The group has invited some 10,000
students between the ages of 12 and 14 from all over Europe to
visit the various EADS sites in order to entice their curiosity and
encourage them to pursue careers in the field.
As part of the event, 1,700
European middle and high school students will be visiting the
Eurocopter sites at La Courneuve (near Paris) in France, Albacete
in Spain, Donauwörth in Germany and Marignane (near Marseille)
in France on June 10, 12, 21 and 24 respectively. The fun and
informative visits will offer students and their teachers the
opportunity to meet the professionals who design, manufacture,
pilot and maintain helicopters. These visits are intended to spark
an interest among the students for careers in aeronautics, as they
discover what we do here at our company and the passion of the men
and women who make it all happen.
"The ten-year anniversary is an excellent opportunity to
highlight the skills of the men and women working at Eurocopter, as
we extend a hand towards the next generation of talented young
people who will be carrying our industry into the future. It
will be the occasion to meet the young people who may very well be
the future engineers, fitters, laminators, quality specialists,
flight line technicians and maybe even test pilots to join our
team," said Eurocopter Group President and CEO Lutz Bertling.
