Aircraft Moves Closer To First Flight At Years End
Textron has shared the fact that it’s completed initial ground engine runs on the prototype Beechcraft Denali single engine turboprop.
The aircraft is powered by GE’s new Catalyst engine. Functionality of the fuel system and engine is verified alongside the avionics and electrical systems. The clean-sheet design aircraft now moves a step closer to its first flight which the company looks forward to around the end of the year.
“These successful engine runs are a significant step toward the upcoming inaugural flight for the Beechcraft Denali, and they are a testament to the determination and collaboration from both the Textron Aviation and GE Aviation teams,” said Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering. “The Denali features a technologically advanced engine that burns less fuel. It has an intuitive avionics suite that eases pilot workload and boasts the most spacious cabin in its segment. We are excited to get this aircraft into the hands of our eager customers.”
GE’s Catalyst engine is more environmentally friendly than older turboprop technologies, burning less fuel as well as being able to use sustainable aviation fuel which outputs lower emissions.
The cockpit features the G3000 avionics suite which includes10 inch weather radar, Terrain Awareness Warning System and dual transponders. Integrated autothrottle is a standard feature.
Equipped with McCauley’s new 105 diameter composite, 5-blade, constant speed propeller, the propeller will undergo a series of tests for certification, which are already happening. The Denali has six individual seats that can recline, and offers a nine-place seating option. Other features include an in-flight accessible baggage compartment, interior LED lighting and large cabin windows with the option for an externally belted lavatory in the rear of the cabin.
