New Helicopters Fulfill Modernization Requirements for Multi-Mission Rotary Aircraft
Leonardo has announced a successful ‘get’ in selling 20 AW119Kx single engine helicopters for the Italian Air Service.
The aircraft will be completed at Leonardo’s Vergiate facility in Varese, Italy, for delivery beginning next year through 2026. Along with the sale, Leonardo sold a “comprehensive turnkey logistics support package” that included training services for pilots and maintenance personnel. That option seems to be popular for many Leonardo customers throughout the EU and the middle east. Perhaps some fleet customers breathe easier when they’re able to leave the troublesome educational aspects of operation to Leonardo’s in-house specialists.
The delivery of the helicopters will allow the Carabinieri to meet its modernization goals and commitments, allowing the Air Service to carry out a range of patrol and reconnaissance tasks required by international agreements. The AW119Kx is a capable bird for the job, whether operating over land, identifying critical targets, gathering investigation evidence, or supporting ground units below. The Carabinieri’s duties include a more service-oriented component, leading these aircraft to be pressed into service as environmental survey, National Disaster Relief Authority, rescue, and even fire-fighting aircraft.
Gian Piero Cutillo, MD Leonardo Helicopters, said: “The introduction of the AW119Kx in the Carabinieri Air Service’s fleet ideally integrates the capabilities the operator already has chosen thanks to the AW139s and AW169s. The helicopters respond to the wide spectrum of the Air Service’s requirements considering their national duties and an evolving and increasingly complex operational scenario. We’re proud to continue to support the Carabinieri with capabilities that are able to face new security challenges and benefit the national communities”.
