Western Michigan University Takes Delivery Of New Frasca Simulator

Level 5 SR20 FTD Recreates 'Feel' Of Flying The Aircraft

The College of Aviation at Western Michigan University has taken delivery of a new Frasca SR20 Level 5 Flight Training Device (FTD) and has also upgraded its two existing Frasca SR20 FTDs to match the new device.

The FTDs will feature upgraded electronic control loading of the flight controls to more accurately recreate the “feel” of flying the Cirrus SR20 aircraft. All the FTDs will include Frasca’s latest TruVision visual system with extremely high resolution, approximately 1 meter, out to about 250 miles from WMU’s home airport in Battle Creek. Also included with each device is a graphical instructor station and Frasca’s debriefing station.

The arrival of the new FTD brings the number of WMU-owned Frasca FTDs to four, including a CRJ 200 regional jet FTD used for high altitude, high speed flight crew training in the flight science capstone course

WMU’s College of Aviation offers its nearly 800 undergraduate students study in three distinct disciplines; flight science for pilots, maintenance technology for aircraft mechanics and operations and management for managers in a wide variety of aviation fields. It is one of the largest collegiate aviation programs in the nation.
