While at NBAA2015, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, talks with Gerry Block, the President and CEO of Sandel Avionics.
Sandel, among other things, is in the business of making good airplanes even better through a retrofit of cockpit avionics. At NBAA2015, they introduced a product called Avilon, which is a completely new panel installation for King Air aircraft.
Block said the purpose of Avilon is to improve cockpit avionics as we move into NextGen and the navigation systems that are part of the new way of doing business in our airspace system. He says the system is being produced for the King Air only at this time, but it can certainly be adapted to other aircraft in the future.
An interesting aspect of the Avilon system is that it is produced as a complete package that simplifies the installation process. To make this point, the video shows a panel installation from both sides that allows you to see how they accomplish this without the complexity of developing a wiring harness, “as they go.”
Block goes on to describe how the system looks to the future and how Avilon has been designed to keep up with the changes we see coming. Even if you are not upgrading a King Air, this video provides a look into how upgrades are accomplished, and in this case, how innovation comes into play.
