High-Flying Lawmaker To Take That First Big Step

First-Time Tandem Jump To Raise Funds For Sexual Assault Counseling

Georgia State Senator Preston Smith, a big-shot in the legislature, has decided to take the plunge.

No, he's not running for governor. No, he's not running for national office. Preston Smith, a five-year Republican and one of the most powerful legislators in all the Peach State, is going skydiving to raise money for the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia.

"I have been involved as a volunteer and supporter of the Sexual Assault Center of Northwest Georgia for several years. I served on its board and help with private and state fundraising efforts," Smith tells the Rome News-Tribune.

"When I found out about the chance to skydive to help raise money for SAC, I jumped at the chance, pardon the pun!"

Did we mention the Honorable Mr. Smith is also a comedian?

Smith won't be jumping alone. He'll be strapped onto an instructor in a tandem jump as part of the Jumpin' for Justice skydiving event October 13th.

"A tandem skydive is safer than driving on I-285 in Atlanta," Smith tells the News-Tribune.

From those of us who drive on the Atlanta Perimeter daily, you'll hear a hearty "Amen!"
