X-Plane Maker Flies Fast!

Austin Meyer's Chooses Lancair Evolution

By Chris Batcheller

Laincair reported Thursday that it has satisfied one tough customer. Austin Meyers is the developer of the famed X-Plane Software and he has chosen to purchase a Lancair Evolution. Austin commented "If you want to see how far and fast you can go safely...then nothing touches a Lancair Evo" the software maker said. You can see Austin Meyers X-Plane software here at AirVenture and it's reported that he already has an Evolution model to use in his simulator.

What is a Lancair Evolution?  The company says it's latest and top of the line model from the famed kit plane manufacturer. This 37 foot wingspan bird will whisk you around at 270 knots cruise burning 100LL or 330 knots cruise if you burn jet fuel.

The Lancair Evolution is available in piston form with a Lycoming iE2 TEO540 engine or in the fire breathing form with a Pratt & Whitney PT-6 Turboprop Engine. With either powerplant option the aircraft is carbon fiber construction, providing a light weight and high strength airframe.

The Evolution is designed to meet or exceed Part 23 specifications for strength and safety. Lancair comments that this is a 'clean sheet' design using the latest developments in aerodynamics and composite construction.

Lancair says the Evolution Kit can be built in about 1000 hours of build time.
