Air Berlin Selects Rockwell Collins Avionics For A320 Fleet

Includes WXR-2100

Low-cost carrier Air Berlin has selected Rockwell Collins to provide avionics for its fleet of 70 Airbus A320 aircraft. The agreement includes an option for 40 additional aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September.

The WXR-2100 MultiScan Hazard Weather Detection System is included in the avionics package. MultiScan is a fully automatic radar that reduces pilot workload and enhances safety and passenger comfort by reducing unexpected turbulence encounters. MultiScan provides optimal weather detection from the nose of the aircraft to 320 nautical miles.

"We believe MultiScan distinguishes Rockwell Collins with its state-of-the-art capabilities," said Kelly Ortberg, vice president and general manager of Air Transport Systems, for Rockwell Collins. "Air Berlin, as a growing low-cost carrier in the European region, recognized Rockwell Collins as a best-value solution for their needs."

Other Rockwell Collins equipment chosen by Air Berlin includes the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900 High Frequency System, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio and the AOC-900 Aircraft Operational Communications data link.
