Vertical Aviation Celebrates 'Best Helicopter' at Sun 'n Fun

Kit Helicopter's A-Game Gains Recognition at Spring's Biggest Fly-In

Hummingbird's 300L helicopter was awarded "Best Helicopter" at the recent Sun 'n Fun fly-in, garnering some serious bragging rights for the design.

Vertical Aviation took a brief moment to make a little victory lap for their Hummingbird 300L, noting its popularity around the show. Their display aircraft was completed by Frank McMullan and Vic Syracuse, who did a great job with a multi-layer black, red, and gold striped livery. It's a nice showing for a fresh addition to the world of kit helicopters, straddling the best of homebuilt experimental and certificated aircraft.

The Hummingbird 300L is rooted in a certified design, giving buyers 4 seats and enough capacity to use theirs as more than just a sporty little runabout. Vertical Aviation sees the award as proof positive that the design, construction, and value of the 300L is enough to be a serious contender in the wider aircraft market.

"The fact that the Hummingbird 300L helicopter stands out not only for its size and spaciousness but also for being a kit helicopter based on a certified design," said the company. "With four seats it is certainly a class above in the kit helicopter industry. It's clear that Vertical Aviation Technologies takes pride in offering a product that combines comfort, safety, performance, and cost. Winning top honors at two of the most prestigious air shows in the world, “Grand Champion Helicopter” at Oshkosh 2023 by Vic Syracuse and “Best Helicopter” at Sun ’n Fun 2024 by Frank McMullan, is a huge achievement and a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of the Hummingbird 300L helicopter. Congratulations to Frank McMullan, Vic Syracuse, and the other Hummingbird builders who attended the show."
