AMETEK To Put Sensor Suites In GP7200 Engines

To Be Installed on A380s

AMETEK Aerospace says it will build and install engine monitoring equipment for the advanced GP7200 high-bypass turbofan engine on the new Airbus A380 aircraft.

AMETEK will supply a full complement of engine sensors for the new engine, including sensors for temperatures, pressures, oil level, oil temperature, and fuel flow.

Frank S. Hermance, AMETEK Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said "This is a strategic win that solidifies our position as the leading supplier of aircraft engine sensors to the largest manufacturers of commercial aircraft engines."

Joining The Team

The GP7200 engine is being developed by an alliance of GE Aircraft Engines and Pratt & Whitney to power the Airbus A380 super jumbo aircraft. The engine is expected to complete certification by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and Joint Aviation Authorities of the European Economic Community in mid-2005 with the A380 aircraft scheduled to enter service in 2006.

The A380 super jumbo, which will carry 555 passengers, will be the world's first twin-deck, four-aisle airliner.

The sensor suite includes the T1.2 temperature sensor, the T2.5/P2.5 sensor, the core temperature sensor, the T3 temperature sensor, T4.9 EGT probes and harnesses, the engine oil temperature sensor, the engine oil level sensor, the delta pressure oil pressure switch, the mass fuel flow meter, the oil filter delta pressure sensor, the engine oil pressure sensor, the fuel filter delta pressure sensor and the fuel manifold pressure sensor.
