Stolen: Vintage Biplane Wings And Tail

Reward Offered

Ken and Wendy Kellett want their wings and tail back. A trailer containing the wings and tail of a 75-year-old French Caudron biplane were stolen from the Auburndale, Florida home that they rent out earlier this month.

Someone stole the unlocked trailer out of the yard of 2004 Shoreland Drive between May 1st and 21st.

The fuselage of the biplane is being kept in the garage, but "Without the wings and the tail, the airplane is gone, ruined forever," said Ken Kellett to the Lakeland Ledger.

The airplane is one of just two in the world, and the wings and tail are valued at $25,000. Kellet restores aircraft at Fantasy of Flight, and operates a family business, Kellett Aviation Ltd.

The plane appeared in the 1966 movie "The Blue Max" and was to appear in a movie planned for 2007.

Kellett and Dale Portschi share ownership of the plane that they bought from an Alabama museum in January, said Wendy Kellett to the Ledger.

Anyone coming forward with information that leads to bringing the parts home will earn a $5,000 reward.
