Cartier Bracelet Disappears at Security Checkpoint

Australian Security Guard Charged

Paula Fox, wife of Australian trucking giant Lindsay Fox, didn't immediately notice that her diamond Cartier bracelet hadn't made it though security, at Australia's Melbourne Airport, last February.

When she did notice, she backtracked. Police now think they know what happened.

What happened, according to prosecutors, was that Mrs. Fox had removed her $52,000 (Australian) trinket to have it scanned at the security gate, and, in her haste to catch her flight, had not noticed it didn't come out, until later.

Prosecutors say security guard David Raymond Hardy, 56, saw it go into the scanner, too... and walked off with it. He's due in court next February, on a grand theft charge, to which he has not yet entered a plea.
