Big News! Boeing Delivers 100 Planes In Q3

Best Quarter In Over Four Years

In a feat Boeing has not performed in over four years, the American plane builder reports it delivered exactly 100 aircraft in the third quarter of 2006.

This represents better than a 60 percent increase over the same quarter last year, where it delivered only 62 aircraft and production was compromised by a 27 day workers' strike. The increase is an indicator of Boeing's recent good fortunes in its epic battle with rival Airbus.

The third quarter deliveries included 81 737NGs, 13 777s, three 747s and three 767s. Year-to-date totals for all models are 295, compared to last year's 217.

The popular single-aisle 737 alone has accounted for fully three quarters of the company's 2006 total, according to the Associated Press.

Bloomberg reports the last time Boeing delivered more planes was the second quarter of 2002, when the total number was 112... reflecting orders placed by airlines before the devastating industry slowdown caused by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. That attack  involved four aircraft, two 757s and two 767s, all built by Boeing.
