Sikorsky Will Be Staying In Stratford, Company Confirms

Possible Move Had Been The Subject Of Much Discussion

Sikorsky Aircraft will be staying put in Stratford, CT, despite rumors that the helo manufacturers might be pulling up stakes.

The Stratford Star reports that company spokesman Paul Jackson said that the company is not going anywhere. “We said on day one as a Lockheed Martin company — and we say again today — we are not leaving Stratford,” he said in an email to the paper.

Rumors and speculation began to circulate when Sikorsky was bought by Lockheed Martin last year. Later, when GE announced it planned to move its operations from Fairfield to Boston, MA, the speculation intensified.

Stratford Mayor John Harkins used the issue to push a theme of diversifying economic development. "Saying, ‘We need economic development’ and actually doing it are two different things. In Stratford, we have been successful with job growth and retention. Towns and cities must be sensitive to the needs of their corporate citizens, who provide jobs and tax revenues for the benefit of residents." the mayor said in a speech last week.
