Flight To Support STEM Education

Female GA Team Crossing India, Thailand

Judith Rice of ThinkGlobalFlight began an adventure Tuesday, flying with CarolAnn Garratt from Muscat, the capital of Oman, on a trip which will take the duo through northern India and Thailand by Christmas Day.

Explaining the purposes of the flight on the website of the Florida Aviation Trades Association, Rice explains, "One of my goals will be to learn how best to fly into India as I prepare for my own future global flight. My second goal will be to connect classrooms across the nation, as well as in India, sharing our passion for aviation while incorporating STEM education.

"CarolAnn’s global flights are intended to create a greater awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease."

The organization's website further explains, "ThinkGlobal recognizes the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education." Of her planned 2013 circumnavigation flight, Rice adds, "This significant international flight will bring meaning and awareness for the importance of STEM to American students. ThinkGlobal Student Command Centers across America are comprised of American students researching, analyzing data, and working together providing the technical support for the ThinkGlobal flight."

On her blog, Rice invites students to follow along as she teaches imaginary flight lessons to Skye Bleu, a toy pig. Follow her adventures through the FMI link below.
