You Want Light Sport?

LSA Manufacturers Well Represented at AirVenture 2005

Even if a person is not in the market for a light sport aircraft, should they happen to stroll through the EAA Light Sport Aircraft Mall on the southeast end of AeroShell Square this year they might just be surprised by the number and variety of LSA models available.

There are several choices available to the LSA customer, from powered trikes, to enclosed canopy ultralights, to fully enclosed aircraft that could pass for their larger, fully-certified brethren from a distance.

Just a few of the choices on the mall this year include:

  • FlightDesign CT
  • Tecnam P92 Echo Super
  • Kappa KP-5
  • Hummel Bird
  • Legend Cub
  • 1942 Taylorcraft
  • Ikarus Breezer
  • Aerostar Festival
  • Quicksilver GT500

In a field as crowded the LSA market has become, any possible advantage a company may have over its competitors certainly helps.

Kappa Aircraft's Ed Miller believes that his Kappa KP-5 offers several advantages, including Fowler flaps and all-metal construction-but there's something else that he believes gives his plane an edge over others.

"All of the planes here are roughly the same price. If you were to spend $85,000 on a car, you'd want a car that looks good. Our plane looks good."
