ANN FAQ: I've Been Searchin' So Long!

Find What You're Looking For On Aero-News With "Search" Function

Let's say you're looking for a story we did on Aero-News a long time ago on a B-25. You don't remember much of the story, except that the plane had a funny name -- something along the lines of "How About That?" How are you going to find the story?

We have made it as easy as possible for our readers to find what they're looking for on Aero-News -- even if the story is as old as we are! Well... as old as Aero-News Network, anyway. Chiseled stone tablets aren't transmitted very well onto computer screens (they tend to break the glass, even with broadband) so we can't quite share the entire depth of our knowledge. You are, however, able to find almost ANY story we've ever published on our site... by using our "Search" capability.

(NOTE: You can also use the "Search" function to find classified ads we've run on Aero-News, but that's best covered on a separate FAQ. For today, we'll cover finding articles.)

Let's find our B-25! Step one, click on the "Search" link at the left of any page on our site:

That will take you to the Search page (amazing how that works, isn't it?) There you will see several options. Let's start at the top:

Our search engine allows you to search by a keyword or phrase --

-- Or by a specific category (we assign each story on Aero-News to a category that best describes the story's subject) --

-- Or, by the date range you believe the article ran in. You can choose to search today's page, yesterday's, within the past week, or even the past month. If that isn't enough, you can even tell the engine to search within a specific date range. You may select any range you want, but in the interest of sanity you should probably keep the dates within a month or so (see, bandwidth.)

(NOTE: You may run the same search of our "Aero-Columns" Features, which we used early on but haven't really utilized for awhile. That doesn't mean we've dumped those articles, though -- they're still available!)

We could use any of these options to find the story we're looking for on our oddly named B-25, but since we already know what we're trying to find, the "Keyword" search will probably best help us find what we're looking for. Since we're unsure of the name, let's search by :

And here's what we see: every story on B-25s we have in our archives!

Quite the lengthy list, isn't it? Fortunately, we know that it was an older story... so let's arrange the list by putting the oldest stories at the top. We could also search by relevance, by the first letter of the title -- the possibilities are endless! (We could put the newer ones on top, too)

And hey, How 'Boot That? We've found our story!!

Go ahead, experiment with the Aero-News Network search function. You never know what you're going to find!
