The Sour Grapes of Wrath
Connecticut State Police report an Oxford man who allegedly threatened violence against the Stratford School for Aviation and its students has been arrested.
Joseph Cyr, 31, was charged with threatening and breach of peace, both in the second degree, following Connecticut State troopers’ investigation of a complaint made against him on 17 February 2023.
Police documents set forth that two people reported Cyr’s alleged threats to Connecticut State Patrol Troop G. One witness informed investigating troopers that in December 2022, Cyr had been heard to say he intended to “shoot up graduation.” The witness stated also that Cyr, on 16 February 2023, made comments to his classmates implying he would—if kicked out of school—turn the airport into a ”crater.” Cyr is also alleged to have tacitly threatened his classmates, asserting he knew where some of them lived.
A second witness corroborated the allegation that Cyr had threatened the Stratford School for Aviation’s graduation ceremony, and added that Cyr had further stated he “was going to bring a friend or possibly a coworker with him.” The second witness also told troopers that Cyr, in response to a question pertaining to his remaining in school, responded, “If I go down, everyone is going down with me.” Cyr then allegedly implied the airport would become a “crater,” state police disclosed in a February 2023 statement. The second witness confided Cyr’s alleged comments compelled his classmates to fear for their safety.
Investigating troopers subsequently contacted the Stratford School for Aviation and were informed by the institution’s administrators that they’d been made aware of Cyr’s threats and had undertaken an administrative investigation thereof.
Cyr was taken into custody at his home and transported to Troop G headquarters where he was charged on a warrant. Presently, Cyr is free on a $50,000 court set bond, pending arraignment in Bridgeport Superior Court.
