Vitatoe Aviation Announces Upcoming Engine STC For Cessna 210

Company Claims Cooler Engine Operation, Increased Performance

Vitatoe Aviation of Chillicothe, OH has developed the Centurion TN550, based on Cessna P210 and T210 aircraft. The difference is under the cowling, where Vitatoe installed a Teledyne Continental IO550P engine, but retained the original turbocharger, allowing for increased performance at altitude over the original TSIO520P engine and the naturally aspirated IO550. The company expects STC approval to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2009.

The IO550P engine has a higher compression ratio for improved fuel efficiency and power. The new configuration also features dual intercoolers to the revised Cessna turbocharger induction system for improved charge air cooling. These additions have provided cooler engine operations at all altitudes.

The prototype aircraft has also been fitted with a Hartzell 7693DF+2 prop for increased performance and quieter operation.

Early flight tests have produced excellent results, with true airspeeds of 208 knots at 17,500' MSL, operating with lean of peak fuel settings of 17.6 gallons per hour. Cessna P210N aircraft are certified to 23,000'.

Vitatoe reports that the cool engine operation is possible by utilizing the TCM flow thru cylinders. Induction air is provided by the turbocharger, cooled by twin intercoolers, and evenly distributed by the tuned induction system. Serviceability was also enhanced and engine clutter reduced by the new location of the throttle body and induction tubes on top of the engine, compared to the original configuration of rear or bottom mounted locations.

The Cessna P210 airframe is a proven design offering many options and accessories. In addition to the comfort of pressurization, the P210 has a proven record of reliable flight characteristics. Now owners of existing P & T 210's can have the latest engine technology, propeller technology and performance for much less than the price of a new aircraft.

In addition to engine alterations, Vitatoe Aviation can arrange exterior, interior and avionics packages to bring P & T 210s to better than new performance and appearance.
