Sukhoi Readies Its Su-80 Civil Turboprop

First Flight Expected Next Month

Russian aerospace manufacturer Sukhoi isn't focusing solely on its military aircraft at this week's Asian Aerospace show in Singapore... it's also touting its upcoming SU-80 multi-purpose aircraft, which can be configured as either a freight hauler or as a 30-passenger regional airliner.

Sukhoi is currently conducting ground testing of the aircraft, with first flight expected soon.

"In March, the complex cycle of ground trials will be over and next month we are to start the flight tests of the first Su-80 plane," the Sukhoi press office said.

Serial production of the Su-80 is scheduled for 2007. As Aero-News reported in 2003, Sukhoi is hoping the plane will have broad international appeal... including among American customers.
