Innovation, Appeal, Principal Factors In Determining
Winner
Belite Aircraft was named the 2010 Grand Champion Ultralight at
this year's Sun 'n Fun Expo in Lakeland, Florida. The award is
based on innovation, appeal, ease of build and presentation among
other factors.
It was Belite's first appearance at Lakeland, displaying both
the Superlite and Trike versions of the FAA Part 103 aircraft. The
Trike, Superlite and standard Belite 254 models are all designed to
provide recreational flyers with economically priced, easy to build
and operate aircraft that make flying affordable and accessible,
even to pilots without any medical or conventional pilot’s
license. All are available in fully assembled or kit form from the
Wichita, Kansas-based manufacturer. Belite Ready To Fly Factory
pricing starts at $25,000. Kits start at under $10,000.
Belite also introduced a new line of lightweight, solid state
avionics designed especially for Part 103 and experimental
aircraft, marketed under Belite Electronics. The new "Patch Flyer"
instruments weigh only 1/2 ounce (15 grams) each, and the
panel-mounted full line of instruments, including mounting hardware
and connections, weighs less than one pound. They’re designed
to easily fit into instrument panels of homebuilt aircraft.
Installation is straight-forward and many of the instruments are
available in small enclosures which can be carried in the
pilot’s flight bag and used in whatever plane they are
flying.
Instruments available from Belite Electronics are:
- Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
- Air Speed Indicator (ASI)
- Turn Rate Indicator (TRI)
- Above Ground Level Altimeter (AGL)
- Inclinometer
- Positive G Meter
- Battery Condition Voltmeter
- Voltage MiniMeter
- Cylinder Head/Exhaust Gas Temperature (CHT/EGT) Gauge
- Fuel Gauge
