American Airlines Pilots Hitting The Presses!

American Airlines’ 14,000 Pilots “Call Out” Their Company On Social Media And Newspapers

The Allied Pilots Association (APA), on behalf of American Airlines’ 14,000 pilots published an open letter to their new CEO Robert Isom, who inherited that perch in March 2022.The APA seeks to bring attention to the “chronic underperformance” plaguing the airline in the form of delays, cancellations, and lost baggage. A sore point of contention is that weather affects everyone [scheduled], but why does AA take so long to recover? This latter point is referenced in conjunction with the need for AA to hire more competent pilots, and beef up the current compensation package.

AA’s pilot noted that their current benefits package is inferior to that of their competitors. Just last month, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), on behalf of Alaskan Airlines’ pilots moved to secure the authorization to strike should negotiations on improving their benefits and compensation package fall through. The publication of the open letter on social media and a host of other newspapers appears to build on the April 14th 2022 lawsuit filed by the APA against the American Airlines Group when the latter decided to eliminate using experienced “check airmen” for their pilot training program.

Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Isom was president of American Airlines from 2016-2022 where he was responsible for the commercial and operations divisions, having previously served as US Airways’ Executive VP & COO.
