Belgian Military Helo Pilot Falls From Aircraft During Air Show

Reportedly Fell 'Hundreds Of Meters', Body Recovered Monday

A Belgian military helicopter pilot reportedly fell from his aircraft during an airshow over the weekend, and investigators are still trying to determine how he suddenly disappeared from his seat in the cockpit of the aircraft.

Reuters reports that the Agusta A-109 was taking part in a parachute demonstration during an airshow at Amay, near the city of Liege. The copilot told authorities that he had been watching three skydivers who had just exited the helicopter, and when he turned around, the pilot was gone and the door of the aircraft was open. He was able to safely land the helicopter on his own.

The body of the pilot, who has not been identified, was located on Monday by searchers. The BBC reports that investigators are looking as suicide as a possible motive. Belgian media also reported that radio communications had been cut between the pilot and the other crewmembers aboard the aircraft.
