US Airways, America West Pilots Meet

Getting To Know You, Getting To Know All About You...

For the first time since US Airways and America West announced plans to merge, leaders of both companies' union pilots sat down in Phoenix Monday in what was billed as a "getting to know you session."

The two groups, both branches of the Air Line Pilots Association "explored ways to work together toward each group's mutual benefit and future," according to a written ALPA statement quoted in the Charlotte Business Journal. The groups "shared concerns about contract enforcement and enhancements, job security and protections, and pilot seniority," ALPA said.

That last issue is obviously key. "The importance of the discussion was to look at alternatives to secure our future," said James Baker, chairman of the Master Executive Council for the America West pilots.
