Updated Panel Announced For Eclipse 550

Fifty Ship Sets Ordered From Supplier IS&S

An initial order for fifty ship sets of an updated IS&S panel for the Eclipse 550 flight deck has been placed by Eclipse Aerospace. Innovative Solutions & Support is the supplier of the avionics suite for the airplane, including Primary Flight Displays, Multi-Function Displays, and Integrated Flight Management Systems. The advanced avionic suite will include Dual Flight Management Systems, Auto Throttles, Synthetic Vision, integrated TAWS, and Enhanced Vision (EVS).

“We congratulate Eclipse Aerospace on the start of their 550 production line and we are pleased to partner with Eclipse Aerospace for the supply of the cockpit avionics for the 550 and 500," said Shahram Askapour, president of IS&S. "The Avio IFMS avionics suite is one of the most advanced cockpits available on any aircraft. The eleven microprocessors in the IS&S displays control all major aircraft systems including Electronic Circuit Breakers, Radios, Transponders and Radars. FMS precision navigation, coupled auto-throttle, full VNAV, and Synthetic Vision give the Eclipse Twin-Engine Jet unrivaled performance.  The aircraft specific synoptic pages provide for a graphical presentation and control of all major subsystems including calculations for Take-Off / Landing performance as well as weight and balance."

Eclipse CEO Mason Holland said the larger MFD allows pilots to configure information so that it is intuitive for them. The MFD can display moving maps, checklists, and even follow the airplane as it steps down on an instrument approach. "The new Eclipse 550 Avio IFMS panel drastically decreases a pilot’s workload during flight, giving Eclipse pilots more time to make critical decisions.” Holland said. “The seamless integration of the Eclipse 550 panels with our aircraft computer systems is unparalleled in the industry.”

Holland told Aero-News that the airplane remains on track to begin production next year.

A full simulator version of this new avionics package can be seen at the Eclipse Aerospace booth at NBAA 2012.
