Three Killed In Shooting At Pensacola NAS

Gunman Identified As An Aviation Student From Saudi Arabia

A shooting at a classroom at the Pensacola Naval Air Station this morning left three people and the gunman dead.

The Associate Press reports that the shooter was an aviation student from Saudi Arabia. The second lieutenant in the Saudi Air Force was killed by a sheriff's deputy.

In all, twelve people were shot in the incident, including two Escambia County sheriff's deputies who were the first to respond to the scene. Both were expected to fully recover. The conditions of the others who were injured were not reported.

The base was locked down and will remain closed so that those still on the base can be evacuated when authorities determine it is safe to do so. NAS Pensacola, the home of the Blue Angels precision demonstration team, employs 16,000 military personnel and 7,400 civilians. Authorities are working to determine if the shooting was a terrorist act.

This is the second shooting on a Navy base in a week. A sailor assigned to a submarine docked at Pearl Harbor opened fire on civilians Wednesday, killing two before taking his own life.
