Senate Commerce Committee Announces Hearing For TSA Administrator Nominee

Will Take Place June 21 In The Russell Office Building

U.S. Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, will convene a nomination hearing at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, for David Peter Pekoske, President Trump's nominee to serve as administrator of the Transportation Security Administration.

This hearing will take place in Russell Senate Office Building, Room 253. The only witness to testify will be the nominee.

According to information provided by Pekoske to the Senate Commerce Committee, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1977, and went on to earn a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Columbia University in 1989, and an MBA from MIT in 1997.

He served in the Coast Guard from 1977 to 2010, where he retired as Vice Commandant of the Coast Guard. He is currently Group President of National Security Solutions at A-T Solutions, Inc.

Pekoske said in his questionnaire that he sees the top three challenges for the TSA as being workforce management of the 60,000 employees of the agency; implementation of technology solutions to improve effectiveness and efficiency of checkpoint security, and; surface transportation security.

"I am honored to be nominated by the President for the position." Pekoske wrote. I wish to serve in this position because I bring seasoned executive level leadership that I will put to use to further improve TSA operations and position the agency for the future."
