Which Is Worse: Airplane Food... Or Pub Food?

British Chef Gives Surprising Answer

This story may cause some animated discussions down at your local watering hole. British chef and restaurateur Marcus Wareing has gone on record in the UK saying he thinks the meals passengers receive on airliners, is far better than the food served at local pubs in London.

The award-winning chef, who most recently made the desserts for the Queen Mother's 80th birthday party... also claims service onboard jets is superior.

"Take a look at airline food and compare it with what you get in your average pub," Wareing wrote in Waitrose Food Illustrated magazine recently. "The menu rarely gets better than tinned soup, sandwiches that have been hanging around for hours, bog-standard lasagne and tasteless meat or fish that's been deep-fried to hell and back."

Again... he wasn't speaking of the dinner course on his last transatlantic excursion... but on pub food. Which either means Wareing is eating at the wrong restaurants... or, he's flying on the right airlines (in which case Aero-News invites Mr. Wareing to drop us a line, and let us know which airlines he's talking about -- Ed.)

Not surprisingly, at least one pub owner bristled at Wareing's comments.

"The food in our Thai restaurant is a lot better than anything you would get on a plane," said Lucy Brook, the assistant manager of the Beehive pub near Heathrow airport, to the London Telegraph.
