Air Canada Jazz Unit of ALPA Re-Elects Officers
Leaders of the Air Line
Pilots Association, International (ALPA) unit representing Air
Canada Jazz pilots have re-elected pilot officers to serve two-year
terms beginning this week.
Following a vote by the representatives on the Air Canada Jazz
pilots' union governing body, the Master Executive Council (MEC),
Captain Nick DiCintio was re-elected to a second term as chairman,
Captain Monty Allan was re-elected as vice-chairman, Captain Terry
McTeer was re-elected as secretary and Captain Rod Lypchuk was
re-elected treasurer.
Captain DiCintio is a Montreal based pilot with 15 years of
service at Air Canada Jazz. Captain Allen is based in Toronto and
has 21 years of service with the airline. Captain McTeer is based
in Victoria, and has 19 years of service with Jazz, and Captain
Lypchuk is based in Vancouver and has 15 years of service with the
carrier.
"I look forward to continuing to serve the Air Canada Jazz
pilots during these challenging times," said Captain DiCintio. "I
thank the MEC for their continued support of not only myself, but
their support for the entire slate of incumbent officers. The
continuity in leadership will allow the MEC leadership to reinforce
on behalf of the Jazz pilots that we endorse business oriented
solutions to the ongoing Air Canada bankruptcy restructuring
process," added Captain DiCintio
The Air Canada Jazz
pilots have been working cooperatively with Air Canada and Air
Canada Jazz throughout the restructuring with a view to realigning
fleet and costs.
The airline claims these measures will ensure Air Canada's
continued success in the increasingly competitive North American
market, including the ultimate objective of maximizing shareholder
value and economic return for all stakeholders.
The Air Canada Jazz pilots Master Executive Council is comprised
of four MEC officers and 14 status representatives who act on
behalf of the 1400 Air Canada Jazz pilots. ALPA, the oldest and
largest pilots union in North America, represents 66,000 pilots at
43 carriers in the United States and Canada.
