Sikorsky S-76A Maintenance Trainer Transferred To Canadore College

Originally Manufactured For Offshore Oil Service, Now Configured As A Training Aid

Sikorsky Aircraft participated in a transfer ceremony of an S-76A helicopter maintenance trainer to Canadore College Thursday for use as a hands-on training aid for students in the School of Aviation Technology. “Sikorsky is delighted that this aircraft’s life will continue as a maintenance trainer that will enhance the education of young aviation professionals,” said Carey Bond, president, Sikorsky Commercial Systems & Services. “We hope it aids in the creation of many aviation careers.”

The S-76A, serial number 760109, was originally manufactured for offshore oil transportation and utility missions for a major oil company in Australia. It was retired from flying service and re-configured for use as a helicopter maintenance training aid. Its major systems are complete and fully functional for that purpose.

Sikorsky also contributed a DC power unit so the aircraft avionics can be turned on during training modules. “On behalf of Canadore College, I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to Sikorsky for their wonderful contribution to our School of Aviation,” said George Burton, president, Canadore College. “As we mark our 40th anniversary, it is with the support and generosity of the aviation industry, as demonstrated by Sikorsky, that Canadore is able to graduate highly-skilled professionals sought by the marketplace here in Canada and around the globe. We look forward to the next 40 years and our continuing partnership.”

In addition to supporting Canadore’s aviation programs, the donation helps Sikorsky move closer to fulfilling its Industrial Regional Benefit (IRB) obligations under the Canadian Maritime Helicopter Program. Canada’s IRB policy ensures that Canadian industry benefits from government defense and security procurement.
