Aerobatic Plane Down During Festival In Finowfurt, Germany

Witnesses Said Airplane Not Part Of The Official Program

An aerobatic airplane which made an inverted, high-speed low pass over a drag strip in Finowfurt, Germany where a car and music festival was being held impacted the ground following the pass, resulting in the fatal injury of the pilot.

A video posted on YouTube shows the airplane making the fly-by, and then a wing touches the ground, resulting in the impact and fireball.

The festival is called "Rock 'N' Race, and reportedly involved rockabilly music and drag racing. It was taking place in the town north of Berlin, according to the website 9News, which reports that someone who attended the event posted on a car enthusiast forum that it did not appear that the plane was officially part of the event. The poster, who goes by the name of "Dr. Grip" on the Finalgear.com forum, said that "some show-off" who had departed from a nearby airport had "decided to do an improvised aerobatics performance above the festival grounds."

Organizers of the event cancelled the racing portion of the event following the Saturday accident.
