Textron Eyes India For Bell 407 Assembly

Feasibility Study Underway, According To Company's Managing Director In India

Textron may shift assembly of its Bell 407 to India, according to the the managing director of Textron India.

Inderjit Sial, president and managing director of Textron India said that the company is currently doing a feasibility study, and that the manufacturing plant could be operational in the 2018-2019 time frame.

He said Textron is in talks with the state governments of Andhra, Telangana, Maharashtra and Karnataka concerning the establishment of a manufacturing plant, according to a report appearing on Business-Standard.com.

Textron manufactures Bell 407 cabins at a development center in Bengaluru that exports the assemblies to the U.S. and Canada. Currently, the plant builds four Bell 407 cabins per month, but plans to increase that capacity to 120 units per year by 2017, Sial said.

Sial said that India represents a "huge opportunity" for the Bell 407, according to the report.
