Shakeup At Flying Magazine Results In Yet Another New Editor-In-Chief

Maya Charles Will "Return To His Original Interests"

As The Prop Turns? Some changes have been made in the newsroom, AGAIN, at Flying Magazine. Robert Goyer, executive editor at Flying Magazine, has been promoted to Editor-In-Chief, replacing Michael Maya Charles, who had only been in the position a short time. Goyer has been with the magazine since 1994 when he was hired as Associate Editor.

Maya Charles, an experienced pilot and aviation journalist, is expected to return to his original interests as an aviation writer and photographer. "While it was a mutual decision for Michael to leave, we certainly wish him success in his next endeavor," said Dick Koenig, Publisher Flying Magazine.

That sounds a little bit like the politician who "wants to spend more time with his family."

In July, Bonnier Corporation replaced Flying's longtime editor J. Mac McClellan with Maya Charles, when the publishing company 'decided to enhance its editorial direction with more comprehensive and balanced coverage of the primary general and business aviation market segments across all media platforms.'

"Like all companies in today's climate, the magazine business must adapt to a changing world and that means we must make difficult decisions so the magazine's tradition and future remain strong, relevant, competitive and most importantly, compelling to our readers," Koenig explained.
