Innovative Enroute Application Introduced By Jeppesen

Adds Real Time Global Weather For Flitedeck Pro EFB

A situational awareness enroute application that features worldwide, real-time weather service was introduced Wednesday by Jeppesen as a new component of its FliteDeck Pro electronic flight bag (EFB). Demand for an integrated EFB enroute charting application with global, real-time weather service was identified during the FliteDeck Pro research and design process that was completed in partnership with professional pilots and aviation industry leaders.

Targeted for Part 121 and Part 135 commercial aircraft operators, the new Jeppesen FliteDeck Pro enroute service features graphical and textual weather display options designed to enhance air safety and to streamline operational efficiency. The new EFB enroute application features weather data graphically overlaid with the route of a carrier's flight plan. The enroute application displays the same weather data when on the ground or in the air, and supports XM satellite and Internet connections available through the open design and simple data integration framework of FliteDeck Pro.

"Jeppesen today introduces an eagerly anticipated EFB enroute application that greatly enhances data services offered through our FliteDeck Pro solution," said Tim Huegel, director, Jeppesen Aviation Portfolio Management. "FliteDeck Pro is an EFB solution built by pilots, for pilots, and our exciting new enroute application with worldwide weather service is designed to improve situational awareness in the flight deck and to meet a critical need of our commercial aviation customers."

Jeppesen says the new enroute EFB application provides customers with increased operational benefit through reduction of pilot workload and learning time needed through the solution's intuitive design and function. The application also creates more value for investment committed to in-flight cabin connectivity through access to Jeppesen enroute data and weather information displays, including data from leading weather service provider WxWorx.

"With the increasing need for weather information, WxWorx is proud to be associated with Jeppesen's distribution of FliteDeck Pro," said Bob Baron, president of WxWorx. "The growing relationship between Jeppesen and WxWorx has been advantageous for the aviation industry, particularly in the cockpit where accurate, reliable weather data is essential for passenger safety."

Global weather data offered by the enroute application for FliteDeck Pro includes display of turbulence, lighting strike, winds aloft and icing data, in addition to NEXRAD high resolution next generation Doppler weather reports. North American customers are also able to receive XM WX/WxWorx Satellite Weather data through the new enroute application that includes METAR/TAF current condition reports and terminal aerodrome forecasts, graphical temporary flight restrictions (TFR) and NEXRAD radar reports.
