World's First Dreamliner To Be Placed On Display In Japan

ZA001 Takes Final Flight To Nagoya

Boeing's first Dreamliner ... ZA001 ... has flown to Nagoya, Japan, where it will be placed on permanent display at Chubu Centrair International Airport.

The gift from Boeing is in recognition of the amount of 787 assembly work that is done in Japan.

The Seattle Business Journal reports that about 35 percent of the airframe of the Dreamliner is built in the central industrial zone southeast of Tokyo where Nagoya is located. Japanese companies build the main wing, forward fuselage, and center wing box. The components are transported aboard a Dreamlifter aircraft to both Everett, WA and North Charleston, SC for final assembly.

Airport officials said in a statement that they hope that the permanent display of ZA001 in Japan will "spur the imagination of the young people of Japan and the next generation of aerospace pioneers.”

ZA001 was rolled out on July 8, 2007, a date that corresponds with the 787 model number.
