Black Hawk Down In Texas

Seven Presumed Lost

A US Army Black Hawk helicopter from Fort Hood apparently hit a TV tower guy wire and went down near Waco, TX, Monday. Although there was no immediate confirmation, sources at the scene said all seven soldiers aboard were killed.

The UH-60 was headed for Texarkana, TX, when it struck the KXXV tower, according to an Army spokesman at Fort Hood, TX. Rock Eicke, who lives about a quarter-mile from the crash site, told the Associated Press he heard a loud rattling sound, then saw the helo impact the ground.

Eicke told reporters he called 911, then escorted a deputy to the scene. There, he said, they saw at least four bodies -- two outside the helicopter and two inside the burning wreckage.

"It was burning to the point that we couldn't have done anything," Eicke told the AP. "These two people that were laying there, there wasn't any question that they were alive. They were dead."

McClennon County Constable Kent Brown concurred. "I didn't see any survivors. I don't see how," he said.
